Brinley was invited to her first classmate birthday party.   I know what you’re thinking, she’s three!  Anyway, the party was today and it was a tea party.  Brinley hadn’t been feeling well yesterday but seemed alright this morning so I decided to take her.  I was really looking forward to going because the little girl lives in our soon-to-be new neighborhood and I thought it would be a good opportunity to meet someone in the area.

Brinley chose to wear her Easter dress from last year and her sparkly pink princess shoes.  The girls had fun painting and decorating jewelry boxes and making bracelets.  They had juice in little tea cups and there were sandwiches shaped like hearts and stars.  Of course Brinley held off on the sandwiches to make sure she had room for cake an ice cream.  After a game of musical chairs (which Brinley chose to observe) the kids sang Happy Birthday, enjoyed cake and ice cream and watched Nina open her presents.  It was funny to see how everything unfolded.  Some of the kids were really interested in watching the presents being opened while others (including Brinley) were busy doing other things like drawing and doing puzzles.

And so it has begun.  I think that my years of hosting birthday parties with just family and close friends have come to an end.  As Brinley continues to attend these birthday parties filled with little girls from school, I’m sure she is going to want to have one of her own.
